Welcome
"Happy is he who gets to know the reasons for things" Virgil
I currently work as a Lecturer in Genetics and Computational Biology within Cranfield Health at Cranfield University as a member of the Cranfield Bioinformatics Group, and I am the current course director for Cranfield Health's MSc in Applied Bioinformatics with significant teaching responsibilities
Initially a laboratory scientist, focus has steady shifted towards in silico approaches. My current research focus is broadly in the area of functional genomics; the exploration of the dynamics and regulation of transcription/translation and protein function from sequence information. I also have an interest in device development towards the diagnostic application of biomarkers. Current research areas include:
- Identification of novel gene promoter motifs for prediction of co-expression
- Genome-wide SNP susceptibility screening and SNP-based multiplex assay design
- Sequence-based identification of novel conserved protein motifs
- Synthetic antigen peptide prediction for antibody and synthetic receptor targeting
- Protein structure and function modelling for target identification/characterisation
- Development of integrated chemoinformatic small molecule screening databases
